I am quite excited about the technology aspect of this course. Although last fall was my first experience with blogging, it's something I'm interested in learning. Not so much for the actual writing content of it, but for the design part of it. After looking at several of the storybooks and blogs for this class, it's clear there are a TON of options to make it uniquely mine. So far, all my MIS courses have not dealt with anything design related. I know it is a growing field. While it's not directly related to management information systems, it does tie in quite a bit. For example, if I create a user interface for a client for a database, I want it to look nice. Most of the platforms used here are not for that purpose, but with all things technology, there are similarities. Coffee! Taken 8/24/19 from my phone. This picture seems kind of random, but the post wasn't super specific about what it needed to contain. I decided that I'd take a picture of my most favorite thing in the morning: coffee!!! I have a hard time starting my day without at least one cup. This morning I'm working on my 3rd. Before this assignment, I had never heard of Carol Dweck. However, after looking up growth mindset, it is apparent she is well versed in this subject and has an abundant amount of information available on the world wide web. If I'm being completely honest, I think I side more with the fixed-mind critics. I'm a bit skeptical of the effectiveness of this concept. I also think that it is hard to apply in fixed structures or matrix style evaluations. Last semester I was tasked with creating an inspiration/goals board and I really struggled with it. For me personally, I don't find quotes inspiring to do more. Now that I typed that out, it sounds super negative! Not my intention. However, I was raised in a home where failure was not an option, but if you did fail, you kept trying until you succeeded and that was the fuel you needed to keep going. I will admit I'm not very witty when it comes to creating titles for things. So I thought I'd Google ideas to be creative with my phrasing of the word introduction. The first thing that came up was a list of 74 catchy blog titles that will grab people's attention. A list of fill in the blank titles. The first story book that I really enjoyed was titled The Epics of Food. Here is a link to this storybook: The Epics of Food . Naturally I clicked on this one because I love food! The introduction is short, simple and to the point. The author outlines the three stories that are told. I also though this storybook was interesting because it not only talked about the characters and how they relate to food, but it also provided a history for each food and how it relates to the culture. I thought it was a great take on something that could be potentially difficult to be creative with. Food is a necessity to sustain life so I thought it interesting to also see how she relates this to life in her posts. I grew up on a farm and it reminds me of home. I know that when I'm out here, it's quiet and there is a peace that comes from that silence. I also enjoy dirt roads because of the surroundings. Sometimes there is nothing for miles on end. Other times you see cattle or horses or the most beautiful hills and lakes around. I work in downtown OKC and am constantly surrounded by people and traffic and noise. It's always go, go, go without a minute to collect your thoughts. When I drive these roads to get to this spot, the tensions of my high-stress job all kind of melt away. Not matter what has happened in my day, I know that I am home. However, the two I took the most away from were: 4 Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination   by Peter Banerjea  The Myth of Too Busy   by Tim Grahl In the second article about being too busy, it talks about re-phrasing the word busy and stating you didn't prioritize a certain task or event. I thought this was an interesting way of looking at it. I say, "I'm too busy" quite frequently. I've never thought about how I prioritize my time in that way before. I just have a list of things I need to get done and I try and squeeze them all in. I also liked that the article said if it's not moving your towards your goals, then you don't need it in your life.
