Weird But Effective Introduction For Sarah

I will admit I'm not very witty when it comes to creating titles for things. So I thought I'd Google ideas to be creative with my phrasing of the word introduction. The first thing that came up was a list of 74 catchy blog titles that will grab people's attention. A list of fill in the blank titles. After trying to add "introduction" to each of the titles, the one I settled on made me giggle the most: Weird But Effective Introduction For Sarah. If you want to see the list for yourself, you can follow this link: Funny Blog Titles.

As the title suggests, my name is Sarah. I'm double majoring in accounting and MIS and I plan to apply for the accelerated master program at the end of the semester and start working towards my masters in MIT. However, I may just settle for one bachelors and be done with it! I have been going to school for the better part of a decade now and have changed majors so many times I've lost track.

I am married and have children. My family is hands down the best part of my life. I know that sounds cheesy, but I can't help it. At the end of a long day at work, I can't help but be thankful I get to come home to people  I love most on the planet. Our family also consists of one very ornery pug named Leo.

Personal picture taken of our dog Leo

As you can see from the picture, he likes to eat Cheetos and drag them all over the floor leaving a mess! But I still love his squishy face anyways.

In addition to going to school full time, I also work full time. I'm one of six supervisors for the 911 Communications Unit for the Oklahoma City Police Department. I have worked here for the last 12 years and love what I do. I find it challenging at times, but I get to learn something new everyday as well as make a difference in the lives of community members. As far as career goals with my degree......I don't really have any. My current position did not require a degree. However, if I want to move up in the organization, a college degree would only increase my opportunities. My "dream job" would either being a detective for our Criminal Intel unit or working in the White Collar division doing forensic accounting.

Other than those things, I'm pretty boring. I don't have free time so talking about hobbies and reading for fun are out the window. I do enjoy cooking, but I do that more out of necessity than anything else. If I'm feeling really fancy, then I might venture out on Pinterest and look up a new way to grill chicken or a side dish to add to the mix.

I think that is all there is to know about me in 300-1000 words!

  1. Hi Sarah. I love that you Googled blog title ideas! That's awesome! My hat's off to you for a couple of reasons:
    1) Working full-time, while going to school full-time, all while raising kids. I work full-time, have kids (granted they are basically adults...one's in college and the other is taking a gap year), and am taking only 2 classes (6 hours) this semester and already feel a bit overwhelmed.
    2) Working in the 911 Communications Unit. That's got to be rough. I'm guessing that you supervise the folks taking the 911 calls, am I right? I can't imagine. I worked in call centers for nearly 15 years (mostly tech support type stuff) and it nearly killed me.
    Needless to say, I'm impressed!

    1. Dave,

Thank you for the kind words! It is a little intense going to school full time with work and kids, but you can do it! Just make sure and pace yourself :)

And yes, I supervise people taking 911 calls as well as the police dispatchers for OKC. We are crossed-trained to do both jobs. Some days it's pretty rough, but most days it's very rewarding. I think all the paperwork is what might be the death of me!!!!

Hope you have a great semester!

  2. Ha ha, that is fun about the title, Sarah! That's something that is really true about the projects and stories in this class; later on, when people are choosing which projects to read and comment on, the title really does make a difference, and it's not easy to come up with good titles. So if you are reading someone's project later on in the semester and have title suggestions, share them! It's weird how hard it can be to come up with just the right title.
And look at your adorable pug: oh so cute! My favorite character in MIB is Frank the Pug. Maybe you could turn your Leo into an extraterrestrial time-traveling dog who takes his Cheetos back to ancient India while getting involved in epic adventures! (Whatever your imagination can dream up works for telling stories in this class, I promise!) ... and I can also imagine that call dispatch could be a great storytelling style, and so too with forensic accounting: forensics and other detective work is very much about figuring out a story that puts the pieces together. So, even if the characters and plots of the epics are new to you, I bet you are going to be able to draw on your experiences for all kinds of storytelling ideas this semester, and I hope you will have fun with it!

  3. Hi Sarah! I really liked your introduction, and I have to say that I really like the look of your blog! It reminded me that I needed to edit the look of my blog. That's really cool that you're majoring in MIS and Accounting. Before my mom had to change majors, she was an accounting major and was very close to finishing it. I'm an Information Studies major, which is kind of similar to MIS in some ways. Also, you're pug is adorable, I know all too well what it's like to have an ornery pet, but you can't help but love them anyways right? I'm excited to hopefully get to know you better over the course of the semester!

  4. Hi Sarah!

Your life sounds far more intresting than mine... FULL TIME STUDENT, MOM, WIFE, AND JOB?! I could never imagine tackling all of that. Its crazy to see so many moms and dads on here making it work and still being great at what they do. Your major sounds fun but also difficult, not sure if i could ever double major because im only three years into college and want to leave haha. Also your job sounds really intresting, what is the craziest phone call you have ever had? (if you can mention it.)

  6. Hello Sarah,
I always dreamed of being an accounting major but the health field still has my heart. I also am not very creative when it comes to wording things or introductions. I love that you openly love your family. You wanna know a secret my nephew is my favorite person in the whole world and we are both Capricorns. Wow working for 911 communications must be exciting and a detective I'm excited for you! Side note Pinterest recipes are my go to social media procrastination.

  7. Hi Sarah!
First of all, I love the picture of your dog. I had a dog named Mel who also use to live for Cheetos so that picture made me laugh. I applaud you for being a full time student, mom, wife, and also working a job! I am sure you have your hands full so I am very impressed by your ability to handle everything. I also think your job sounds very interesting. My mom had that same kind of job years ago, and absolutely loved it and I always thought it sounded challenging yet exciting. It was nice getting to know you through your blog post!

  8. Hey Sarah!

I want to start off by saying your dog is incredible and I already love him. I cannot imagine working full time while also being a student full time. I have a hard enough time as it is working part time. I guess I need to stop complaining when there are people like you thriving!

How closely does your job interact with dispatchers and other police officers? I have never heard of that before and it sounds like it would be pretty intensive.

I also support your decision to do an accelerated masters program. You will not regret it if you do. And if it will help you rise in ranks at your job, I say go for it!

  9. Hi Sarah! Thank you for including a picture of your dog because he is so adorable. I love dogs and hope to own a corgi one day. Hopefully, that day comes soon. I find it amazing that you are a full-time student, full-time worker, and have a family to tend to at the end of the day! Also, I wonder what it is like working as a supervisor for the 911 communications unit. There must be new and exciting things you hear about everyday!

  10. Hey Sarah! Your dog is adorable and I really love pugs and yours is the cutest. I really think it's awesome whenever people come back to college after working for a bit. I know it's a super hard thing to do but you should be proud of yourself. Also your job sounds really cool. I've never gotten to meet someone who worked for the 911 communications unit and I'm sure that you have some cool stories to tell.

  11. Hi Sarah, I hope that you are having a great semester so far. I really enjoy that picture of your pug! Leo is so cute! It's amazing to me that you balance a career, family, and school. It is quite an accomplishment. Forensic accounting sounds really interesting and I'm going to have to look into what its all about. Great to meet you Sarah!

  12. Hi Sarah! I love the title to your introduction! You are absolutely awe-inspiring balancing those and considering a Masters. I've been going off and on for a decade now too, and while I might consider another degree later, i'm ready to wrap up and have a break for a while. I'm a mom as well, and I can't imagine balancing everything you do, although I'm sure Leo cuddles definitely helps when things get rough. I definitely understand the lack of time for hobbies. My standard response when someone asks is "What's a hobby?? Does being mom count?" and they usually laugh and don't get it. Your dream jobs sound awesome, I wish you luck in accomplishing your dreams.

  13. Hello Sarah,
I have to start off by saying I relate to the title thing. I also can relate when you say you have been in college for a while. For me it feels like it has been ages and that it will never end. Good luck on getting into MIT and pursuing a masters! I also think your dog is adorable. My fiancé wants to get a pug and I just think they are the cutest things. Ugly to a point that they are adorable! I hope you get your dream job and that everything works out for you!

  14. Hi, Sarah! I love the story of how you came up with your blog post title. That is hilarious! That is awesome that you are so passionate about your family. Also, your pug is so cute! Your job sounds really interesting! Have you ever thought about studying Forensic Science at UCO? I know they have a great program. Regardless of where you end up it sounds like you have a lot of really neat options! Best of luck to you on all that is yet to come!

  15. Hi Sarah! First of all you're my hero. I am also a mom, wife and pinterest lover. The fact that you work full time and mom full time , plus school is amazing! Your job can't be easy to want to go home and do homework at the end of the day. I work part time and that seems overwhelming in combination with school. I struggled finding hobbies to write about for my intro too. I blame the kids haha! I like to cook as well but never have to time to make anything creative. Thats why I'm happy the holidays are around again because its the time of the year I actually make time for cooking new things.

  16. Hi Sarah!
Let me just say I think it is hilarious that we are both named Sarah and both love pugs. I had a Doug the Pug calendar in my room last year, but I haven’t actually had a pug (yet). They are so cute and have the funniest personalities. I am already obsessed with Leo. He just looks so precious and seems like he would be a funny little goober to have around the house. I was so intrigued reading about your job and future career goals! I also laughed at your comment at the end about new ways to grill chicken because I definitely didn’t know there was more than one way to grill a chicken.

  17. Hi Sarah! I have no idea how this is the first time I have come across your blog, but after having just read an amazing story you wrote I'm floored to learn you're not an English major! Though from the sounds of it, you have no shortage of dedication and discipline! I look up to super-humans like yourself that somehow juggle family, full time job, and full time college courses at the same time-- it seems impossible! Your pug is absolutely adorable, and what's more charming than a squishy little puppy that likes cheerios? The only pug I have ever met was maked Pookie and she snored, so I think it was after that when I was totally enamored by the breed! Best of luck on all your endeavors, it sounds like whatever work you go into after you acquire your degree(s) you will excel in!

  18. Hi Sarah! I think your job is so cool. I grew up with parents who both worked in law enforcement, so I got to see and hear a lot about what goes on behind the scenes, but your job is something new and awesome! Thank you for your service to our community. In addition, I think it's really cool that you want your degree to help you continue detective or forensic work.

  19. Hey Sarah,

I'm also majoring in MIS. Though I went into college to major in mechanical engineering, I found myself not particularly enjoying the career prospects from this major. So I made the switch to MIS, and I definitely do not regret it. I want to commend you on your perseverance. I work part-time at my internship at American Fidelity, while attending school full time. I can't imagine juggling school and work full-time, all the while taking care of your children. I look forward to reading your project stories!

    1. Hey Sarah,

I am touching base on week 15. I really enjoyed reading your stories throughout this semester. I can tell the style and prose of your stories have some influence on your background working as a supervisor in the Oklahoma Police Department. I have yet to check out your finalized project, but I look forward to seeing your renditions!

  20. Hi Sarah! I liked your intro paragraph a lot! I also have a hard time coming up with good titles. It can be hard sometimes, but the one you chose works quite well! Accounting and MIS sound very interesting. I bet they keep you busy! I can definitely relate to your changing majors frequently. There’s just so many cool things out there, how can you pick just one? Leo is such a cutie! I hope the rest of your semester goes well!
